Both levels are backed by 24/7 monitoring centres that liaise directly with the police during a recovery, and both need an active subscription with the monitoring provider to stay live. Our side of the job is the install: the module buried deep in the car where thieves do not think to look, like the door-cavity fit in the photo above, with wiring finished factory-neat so nothing gives it away. Change cars later and most systems can be transferred across rather than bought again.

Yes. Monitored S5 and S7 systems depend on a 24/7 monitoring centre, and the monitoring providers charge a subscription for that service, usually billed monthly or annually. It is a requirement of the system, not an optional extra: without an active subscription the monitoring stops, which can also matter for your insurance. We will talk you through the plans before you commit.
Deep in the car, away from the obvious places thieves check first. The module in our hero image is buried inside a door cavity; other installs go elsewhere, and we deliberately vary locations from car to car. Wiring is routed and finished factory-neat, so there are no giveaway signs. For obvious reasons we never publish or discuss exact locations for a specific car.
No, not in normal use. Tracking modules are designed for permanent connection to the car and draw a very small current, dropping into a low-power sleep mode when the car is parked. If a car is laid up for weeks at a time, a battery conditioner is sensible anyway, but for a car driven normally the tracker's draw is not something you will notice.
You call the monitoring centre, or on an S5 system the centre often calls you first, because the car has moved without your driver tag present. Once the theft is confirmed, the centre tracks the car live and liaises directly with the police to recover it. That police liaison is the real value of a monitored system over a self-monitored phone app.
