Paint protection film is a thick, optically clear urethane layer fitted over your paintwork, and once it is on you would struggle to spot it. What it does is take the hits your paint would otherwise take: stone chips flicked up on the A23 commute, motorway grit, car park scuffs and the wash swirls that slowly dull a dark car. We template, fit and finish PPF in-house at the Swift Centre, just off Purley Way.
The clever part is the topcoat. Quality films self-heal: warm the surface, in summer sun or with warm water, and light scratches and swirl marks reflow and disappear. The film keeps taking punishment and keeps looking freshly detailed, which is exactly what you want on a car you actually drive rather than one that lives under a cover.
Most damage happens at the front, so most of our Croydon customers start there: front bumper, the leading edge of the bonnet, wings and mirrors, the panels that face the debris. Cars that live on the motorway or see track days get extended coverage, and the ones worth doing properly get every painted panel filmed.
Fitted over gloss paint the film is effectively invisible, or go stealth satin and turn factory gloss into a satin look while still protecting the original finish. Either way the paint underneath stays perfect, which is money in your pocket at resale or lease return: a chip-free front end never needs a respray.

PPF FAQs
Paint protection film is a thick, optically clear polyurethane film applied over your paintwork. A vinyl wrap changes how the car looks; PPF is about defence. It absorbs the stone chips, scratches and road rash that would otherwise mark the paint, and because it is virtually invisible the car still looks factory. Stealth satin films are the exception, giving gloss paint a satin look while protecting it.
Yes, within limits. Quality films carry an elastomeric topcoat that reflows when warmed, so light swirl marks and wash marring disappear with heat from the sun, warm water or a heat gun. It will not heal a deep gouge or a chip that has cut through the film, but the everyday fine scratches that slowly dull paint simply vanish.
A properly fitted quality film is a long-term installation. Film manufacturers typically rate their products for years of service, commonly in the five to ten year range depending on the film. Real-world lifespan comes down to the product chosen, how the car is used and how it is washed: front-end film on a daily motorway car works harder than film on a garaged weekend car.
Yes. Once the film has cured you wash the car as normal. Hand washing is kindest, and if you pressure wash just keep the lance away from film edges. Ceramic coating over PPF is a popular combination: the film handles impacts and chips while the coating adds gloss, slickness and easier cleaning on top of it.
The cheap early films that gave PPF a bad name could yellow in sunlight. Modern premium polyurethane films are UV-stable and formulated not to discolour. Peeling and lifting are almost always an installation problem rather than a film problem, which is why edge work matters: panels prepared properly and edges tucked or wrapped so the film stays exactly where it was put.
For most cars, yes. The overwhelming majority of stone chips land on the front bumper, the leading edge of the bonnet, the wings and the mirrors, which is exactly what a front-end package covers. If you do serious motorway miles or track days, extending to the full bonnet and the lights adds cover where debris strikes at speed.
